National Museum of Natural History

 

 

The Muséum national d'histoire naturelle* is a French institution for research and the dissemination of scientific and naturalist culture. It is one of the first establishments of its kind in the world, along with the Natural History Museum in London. Today it has the status of a major establishment, placed under the joint supervision of the Ministries of Higher Education and Research and of the Environment. Its headquarters are in the Jardin des plantes in Paris, but it has 13 sites in Paris and the rest of France. Founded in 1793, it is one of the oldest establishments of its kind in the world.
